The “Green Campus” campaign was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University within the framework of SDG 4 and SDG 15
On April 9, 2026, the "Green Campus" campaign aimed at increasing environmental responsibility was organized at a high level and was held in a meaningful manner. This event was held with the aim of landscaping the faculty territory, forming a culture of environmental protection and promoting the principles of sustainable development. As part of the campaign, undergraduates of the department actively participated in planting young seedlings on the territory of the university. This initiative was aimed not only at improving the environmental situation, but also at increasing the responsibility of students and young scientists towards nature.
Specially invited guests also attended the event. Among them was Professor Hernando Quevedo of the Autonomous University of Mexico. The participation of an international scientist increased the importance of the campaign and gave special motivation to young people. In his speech, the professor noted that environmental protection issues are common to the whole world, and such initiatives are of great importance for the scientific community and educational organizations. In addition, the dean of the faculty N.A. Beysen also actively participated in the event and noted the importance of supporting environmental projects on behalf of the university staff.
The saplings planted during the campaign will not only improve the ecological situation of the university territory in the future, but also contribute to the creation of a comfortable and green environment for students. The “Green Campus” initiative is directly related to the principles of one of the sustainable development goals - combating climate change (SDG 15). Work in this direction will allow us to preserve the environment, protect biodiversity, and rationally use natural resources.
This event was a vivid example of the formation of an ecological culture in educational organizations. The active participation of undergraduates shows that they not only receive professional education, but also deeply understand their social responsibility to society. Such good initiatives will undoubtedly continue in the future and contribute to the ecological development of the university.
In addition, during the campaign, mutual cooperation and teamwork skills were strengthened among the participants. During the planting of saplings, undergraduates felt the importance of supporting each other and working together towards a common goal. This experience will positively affect their active participation not only in the field of scientific research, but also in social and public projects.
As part of the event, a brief explanatory work was carried out on the environmental topic, and the participants were provided with information about the importance of planting trees and how to care for them. This, in turn, will serve as a basis for the planted seedlings to grow well in the future and bring real benefits to the environment.
Such actions, in addition to forming the environmental consciousness of young people, strengthen the compassionate attitude towards nature in society. It is expected that the “Green Campus” initiative will continue in the future as one of the strategic steps of the university towards sustainable development.
In conclusion, this environmental event has made a great contribution to strengthening the unity of the university community and promoting common values. It was once again clear that nature protection is not just a one-time action, but an important ongoing process. Such good initiatives will undoubtedly form an ecological culture in the younger generation and increase responsibility for the environment.
