Education documents issued by foreign educational institutions are recognized in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Foreign citizens applying to KazNU on a tuition-paying basis must submit the following documents under the Standard Rules approved by Order No. 600 of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 31 October 2018:
an application in free form addressed to the head of the institution;
an application in the prescribed form for the paid completion of prerequisites if the chosen educational program is not related to the applicant's previous level of education;
an education document:
for bachelor's programs: the original secondary education certificate with its transcript and a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian — 2 copies;
for master's programs: the original bachelor's diploma with its transcript and a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian — 2 copies;
for doctoral programs: the originals of the master's degree document and bachelor's diploma, together with notarized translations into Kazakh or Russian — 2 copies;
a notarized translation of the international passport into Kazakh or Russian — 2 copies;
2 color photographs measuring 3 × 4 cm, taken within the last 6 months;
a medical certificate, Form No. 075/U; upon arrival in Kazakhstan, applicants must also provide a chest X-ray image, a certificate confirming the absence of HIV infection, a certificate from a neuropsychiatric institution, and a copy of their vaccination record;
medical insurance valid in the Republic of Kazakhstan, to be presented upon arrival;
an international certificate confirming foreign-language proficiency in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, if available. Such a certificate is mandatory for educational programs in the field of Health Care;
a list of scientific and methodological publications, if available.
An apostille or consular legalization is required when an education document is to be used in another country, including for admission to a foreign university. These procedures confirm the document's authenticity in the foreign country.

Foreign citizens applying to tuition-paying bachelor's programs are admitted based on a preliminary selection in subjects relevant to their profile and secondary education level. Foreign applicants to master's and doctoral programs complete one preliminary-selection stage: an oral interview.
The preliminary selection consists of two stages:
a test in general education subjects on the designated platform;
a test assessing proficiency in the chosen language of instruction.
The examination is conducted in the language selected by the applicant for study.

Applicants must score at least 65 points to pass the first stage.
Applicants to English-medium programs must answer at least 21 of 30 questions correctly. Applicants to Russian- or Kazakh-medium programs must answer at least 15 of 30 questions correctly.
Applicants to a research and teaching master's program (2 years) must score at least 75 points. Applicants to a specialized master's program (1–1.5 years) must score at least 50 points.
Applicants to doctoral programs must score at least 75 out of 100 points.

After the enrollment order is issued, the applicant submits the documents required to obtain an invitation for a student visa.
a copy of a passport valid for at least two years;
proof of payment of the state fee equal to 0.5 Monthly Calculation Index (MCI), in accordance with the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 25 December 2017 On Taxes and Other Mandatory Payments to the Budget;
a completed visa application form in the prescribed format.
A student visa is issued for a period of up to one year.
The invitation or visa support is processed within one month after the enrollment order is issued.
Yes. Enrolled foreign citizens must submit the documents required for migration registration to the Admissions Committee within 2 working days of arrival at KazNU.
An education-related temporary residence permit is arranged for citizens of CIS countries.

Employment under a student visa is strictly prohibited.
Yes. Foreign citizens must complete mandatory fingerprint registration upon enrollment. The procedure is conducted at the location of the university.
International students must bring their original passport. Citizens of CIS countries must also provide an Individual Identification Number (IIN), in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan On Fingerprint and Genomic Registration.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has a student campus known as KazGUgrad, which includes 14 dormitories. Students may also use partner hostels verified by the university.
