From April 22 to 24, 2026, the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 (RES 2026) was held in Astana, serving as a major international platform dedicated to sustainable development, climate issues, and green technologies.

G.A. Mukanova, Associate Professor of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, participated in the event.

The RES 2026 Summit was organized as a dialogue platform bringing together Central Asian countries, international organizations, the business sector, and the scientific community to develop joint solutions in the fields of climate change, environmental security, and sustainable development.

During the event, key topics included climate action (SDG 13), efficient management of water and land resources (SDGs 6 and 15), biodiversity conservation, as well as the implementation of green technologies and the development of a sustainable economy. Strengthening international cooperation and the implementation of investment projects (SDG 17) were also highlighted as priority areas.

As part of the summit, the RES 2026 EXPO exhibition showcased environmental innovations, ESG projects, and modern green solutions, fostering cooperation between government, business, and academia.

The event served as an important platform for advancing Kazakhstan’s initiatives at both regional and international levels toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
