“From Zero to Capital”: A Student’s Path to Financial Freedom

On April 16, 2026, at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science hosted an important event focused on youth development — a training session titled “From Zero to Capital.” Held in Lecture Room 316, the session was more than just a lecture; it marked a new stage in personal development and the pursuit of financial independence. The training focused on systematically improving students’ financial literacy and equipping them with practical skills to build initial capital.

Purpose and relevance

In today’s dynamic economic environment, financial stability and independence have become key priorities for young professionals. The primary goal of the training was to teach students the fundamentals of financial planning, develop a culture of effective income management, and guide them toward achieving long-term strategic goals. Financial literacy is not just about saving money — it is about strategic thinking and confidence in the future.

Organization and program

The event was organized by Deputy Dean for Social and Educational Affairs of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science, Ayazbayeva B.B. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of developing not only professional competencies but also essential life skills (soft skills). The training effectively combined theoretical knowledge with real-life examples, providing a clear understanding of capital-building strategies.

The training covered several key areas:
* personal finance management and budgeting;
* diversification of income sources;
* fundamentals of investing;
* setting financial goals and planning.

Practical session and interactivity

The most engaging part of the training was the practical component. Participants worked on case studies, analyzed their own financial habits, and explored the impact of everyday expenses on their budgets. Many students were particularly surprised by calculations demonstrating the “coffee factor” and the cost of impulsive spending.

Additionally, a mathematical model illustrating how small, consistent savings can grow into substantial capital was presented. During the interactive Q&A session, students asked questions on a wide range of topics, from bank deposits to stock markets and digital assets.

Financial discipline as a success factor

Special emphasis was placed on financial discipline and long-term thinking. Students learned that success is not determined solely by income level but by the ability to manage resources effectively. The concept of building capital from zero was presented as a realistic outcome of discipline, knowledge, and consistency.

Conclusion

The “From Zero to Capital” training became a valuable practical learning experience for students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Participants not only gained knowledge but also developed a stronger sense of responsibility for their financial future. Financial literacy is an essential skill in modern society.

According to the organizers, such initiatives will continue in the future, contributing to the financial independence of young people. The event clearly demonstrated that universities provide not only academic education but also essential life skills. At the end of the training, students created their first financial plans and expressed their readiness to move forward toward new goals.
