Issues of Dissertation Preparation and Timely Defense Discussed with Faculty Doctoral Students

The Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences conducted a regular attestation of doctoral students aimed at evaluating the implementation of individual study plans, the progress of research activities, and the level of preparedness of doctoral dissertations for defense.

During the attestation, doctoral students presented the results of their scientific activities, publication records, progress in research tasks, participation in international scientific internships and conferences, as well as the implementation of their individual study plans. Particular attention was paid to compliance with established timelines for dissertation research, the quality of scientific outcomes, and the alignment of research activities with the current requirements of postgraduate education.

As part of the event, a meeting was held between doctoral students and L.A. Kuanova, Head of the Office for Training and Attestation of Scientific Personnel (UPANK). During the meeting, participants received detailed explanations regarding the current requirements for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) training, recent changes in attestation procedures, admission requirements for dissertation defense, publication requirements for national and international scientific journals, and issues related to the preparation and support of doctoral dissertations at the final stages of study.

Special attention was given to the principles of academic integrity, the quality of scientific publications, compliance with the requirements of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the importance of completing all stages of dissertation preparation in a timely manner.

During the open discussion, doctoral students received answers to questions concerning publication strategies, the organization of research internships, preparation of manuscripts for high-ranking international journals, pre-defense procedures, and the documentation required for dissertation defense.

Participants were reminded that the timely defense of doctoral dissertations is one of the key indicators of the effectiveness of scientific personnel training and an important factor in strengthening the University's research potential. Adherence to established deadlines ensures the continuity of scientific activity, enhances research productivity, and strengthens the University's position in both national and international academic communities.

The organization of attestation procedures and informational meetings contributes to improving the quality of doctoral education, fostering a strong academic culture, and creating favorable conditions for the successful completion of dissertation research. The Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences continues its systematic efforts to support young researchers by providing comprehensive scientific and methodological assistance throughout all stages of PhD training.
