KazNU and the Ministry of Water Resources are developing the Water Diplomacy program

Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aslan Abdraimov paid a working visit to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The guest of honor was met by Vice Rector for Scientific and Innovative Activities of KazNU Margulan Ibraimov.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of water security, digitalization of the industry, the introduction of modern scientific developments and the training of highly qualified specialists.

In his speech, the Vice-rector noted that the university is dynamically developing areas such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, big data analysis, remote sensing of the Earth and climate modeling. These modern technologies will be widely used to solve the problems of effective water resources management.

Special attention was paid at the meeting to the capabilities of the Kazakh-Chinese Laboratory of Remote Sensing Technologies and their Applications, as well as the farabi Supercomputer Center. This infrastructure opens up new opportunities for monitoring water bodies, forecasting flood risks, analyzing the condition of irrigated lands, and modeling hydrological processes.

In addition, the parties discussed the implementation of joint scientific and applied projects and the development of international partnerships. It was noted that KazNU, together with the International Institute of Water Resources Management (IWMI), is currently developing an interdisciplinary master's degree program in Water Diplomacy aimed at training specialists in the field of water resources management at the national and transboundary levels.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to strengthen partnership in the fields of science, education and innovation, as well as to implement joint initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of water resources management and ensuring sustainable development of the country.
