PhD doctoral student of the Department of Geography, Land Management and Cadastre of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Kuanysh Kelgenbayev has successfully completed a research internship at Salem State University in Massachusetts, USA.

The international program is aimed at sharing experiences and conducting joint research on topical issues of modern geoeconomics and geopolitics.

The KazNU doctoral student's research is devoted to the development of a methodology for assessing the geography of international conflicts using a system of geopolitical indicators and spatial mapping methods. The proposed scientific approach makes it possible to comprehensively analyze the spatial dynamics of conflicts, determine the patterns of their development and opens the way to the formation of analytical models that allow a deeper understanding of modern international processes.

This research methodology, currently being developed at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, attracted significant interest from the faculty of Salem State University. U.S. scholars highly appreciated the project’s practical potential for analyzing and forecasting international conflicts in Central Asia, Africa, and other geopolitically significant regions.

During the internship, the young researcher held a series of meetings with leading professors, including Stephen Young, Jennifer Robinson, and Brenna Minty. The discussions focused on contemporary approaches to the study of international conflicts, the application of geospatial technologies in geopolitical analysis, and prospects for further academic cooperation between the two universities.

The American university provided all the necessary conditions for the doctoral researcher to carry out his work effectively. He was provided with a private office and a personal identification card granting access to the university library, electronic research resources, and specialized academic materials.

The research internship strengthened the international academic partnership between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Salem State University. Such joint initiatives are also expected to promote the exchange of advanced research expertise, expand academic mobility, and advance collaborative projects at the international level.
